William (Bill) Frederick Kener passed peacefully at his home in Dunwoody, Georgia on August 29, 2024, at the age of 74 following a challenging battle with cancer. He was a parishioner and daily communicant at All Saints Catholic Church. Bill was deeply loved by his family and friends and regarded as an example of kindness, gentleness, patience, and love to all who came to know him. He will be remembered for his deep faith, generosity, sense of humor, and his willingness to help anyone in need. As a father of three and grandfather of 10, his commitment to family highlighted his humility and selflessness.
The younger of two children, Bill was born on March 16, 1950, in Buffalo, New York to George Kener and Beata Becker. After graduating from Whitesboro High School in 1968, Bill earned a degree in electrical engineering from SUNY Morrisville. He and June Imhoff married on September 18, 1971, at Saint Paul’s Church in Whitesboro, New York, and were blessed with fifty-two years together.
Bill enjoyed a successful and enriching career working in technology that resulted in life-long friendships, a transfer to Columbus Ohio where he continued his education and earned a BS degree in Computer Science at Capital University, followed by a transfer to Naperville IL. In 1985 he moved his family back to upstate NY to be closer to family, especially his aging parents. In 1996, he moved to Atlanta. After retiring at the age of 51 from Lucent Technologies, he was able to offer his knowledge and experience to Regnum Christi. Being a devout Catholic, his time with them allowed him to be of service as a technician, spiritual guide, and organizational leader.
Bill’s life-long passion for fishing afforded him precious quality time with beloved family and friends. His greatest joy was time spent with his bride, with whom he enjoyed frequent camping trips. They were often joined by their ten grandchildren on their many trips and family adventures.
Bill is preceded in death by his father, George Kener, his mother Beata Kener, and his brother George Kener. Bill is survived by his wife June, his three children Bill (Kelly) of Lilburn, GA; Andrew of Marietta, GA; and Scott (Lisa) of Acworth, GA; grandsons Wyatt, Austin, Casey, Owen, Winston, Killian, and granddaughters Avery, Haley, Sophia, and Charlotte, his sister-in-laws Irene Kener and Barbara Muller, brother-in-law Walter, and 18 nieces and nephews with whom he shared many adventures through the years.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University and Admedisys Hospice of Lawrenceville for their compassionate care of Bill and for their support of the family.
They are especially grateful for the amazing love and care and immense help shown by their beloved niece/cousin Debbie Furgal who traveled from Boston to support them in the final days before Bill went to be with the Lord.
As an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Regnum Christi or St. Vincent De Paul. Visitation will take place at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home in Peachtree Corners on Wednesday, September 4th from 5-8PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at All Saint’s Catholic Church on Thursday September 5th, 2024, at 11AM, with a reception immediately following in the parish hall.
